Margaret E. Caldbeck, 90, of Independence, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa, by Rev. Kristy Parker of Jesup 1st Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends for 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.
Survivors include three children, Karen (Richard) Jacobs of Cedar Rapids, Jean Versluis of Independence, and Ken (Marcia) Caldbeck of Riverside, AL; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Genevieve Bowers and Keith Washburn, both of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Richard; granddaughter, LoAnn; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.
Margaret was born June 25, 1920, the daughter of Gay and Elizabeth (Briney) Washburn, in Stanley, Iowa. In 1938, Margaret married Francis Caldbeck in Independence. She worked for Cryovac in Cedar Rapids for 29 years. She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo weekly, and going to the casino. Margaret loved watching the Cubs and the Hawkeyes play. She also loved spending time with all of her grandchildren.
