Margaret Smith Anderson passed away in Wyoming, MN on February 11, 2014 at the age of 78.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Manchester, followed by a 10:30 a.m. burial at the Evergreen Cemetery in Delhi. Lunch will follow at the Delhi Methodist Church, 304 Market St., Delhi.
Margaret Smith was born in Delhi, IA on October 22, 1935. She graduated from Delhi High School in 1953. On June 14, 1953, Carroll Anderson and Margaret Smith were married in Delhi, IA. For the next 20 years Margaret was a homemaker taking care of the three children. In 1974 Margaret fulfilled a life-long dream of going to college. She attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated in 1978 with a degree in Business Education with an Accounting emphasis. Following graduation she taught at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo until her retirement.
In 2005, Carroll and Margaret moved to Pell City, AL to be near their son John. Margaret loved her time in Alabama and cherished her time with John, Chris and Elizabeth and the years in her “little red barn.” Following Carroll’s death, Margaret moved back to Waterloo where she lived until moving to be near her daughter Joan. Margaret was lovingly cared for by Joan and Curt until her death.
Margaret was a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Waterloo where she was active in church circle, the choir and various other committees. Following retirement she joined SCORE where she volunteered for several years. Margaret loved to play cards and drink Pepsi. She always enjoyed entertaining and was an excellent hostess.
Margaret is lovingly remembered by her family. Susan Girsch (James L. This) of Olympia, WA ; Joan Stainbrook (Curt) of Stacey, MN; John Anderson (Amy) of Pell City, AL. Also Eric & Laila Stainbrook; Carrie Girsch Vijil, Adam and Hayden; Courtney Girsch Sanford and Brian; Christopher Anderson and Elizabeth Anderson. Her brothers Marlin (Bud) Smith of Troy, OH; David Smith and his wife Sharla of Delhi; her brother-in-law Iver (Ike) Anderson and Aileen of Cedar Falls; and her Aunt Pauline (Jerry) Kehoe of Waterloo. Margaret had many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will also remember fondly the times they had together.
Memorials may be directed to the Delhi Cemetery, % Delhi Methodist Church to assist in the upkeep of the grounds.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Carroll Anderson and son-in-law John Girsch.
