Marcus Lenard Beets, 21, of 1021 9th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals following a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2003, at Gospel Tabernacle Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Wendell Beets and Bishop Paul Beets. Visitation from 4-8, Friday, November 7, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his parents, Colbert and Sandra (Waddell) Beets; two brothers, Tony Lee Beets of Jacksonville, Florida and Marsielle Clark of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Sherry Lawanna Kennedy and husband Tryone of Las Vegas, Nevada, Theresa Elaine Beets of Las Vegas, Nevada and LaTonia Michelle Reed and husband Richard and their children, Justin and Marissa Reed of Cedar Rapids; his grandfather Wm Waddell of Detroit, Michigan; his great-grandfather John Haynes of Quitman, Mississippi; his aunts and uncles, Rev. Wendell Beets and wife Lenora and special cousin, Patrick Beets of Cedar Rapids, Bishop Paul Beets and wife Mary of Marion, Aaron Waddell and wife Cheryl of Tyler Texas, Alvernia Franklin of Cedar Rapids, LaVernia Johnson and husband Joseph of Chicago, Illinois, Sherry Ray and husband Tony of Tyler, Texas; his fiancée Eva McRae of (US Army) National Guard, a special friend and mentor, Slayton Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Cymaron Dawson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Elizabeth Beets; his grandmother, Lorene Manning; his great-grandmother, Otlia Haynes; three uncles, James Oliver Beets, Thomas Lee Beets and Alvin Roland Beets; and an aunt, Mammie Ruth Beets.

Marcus was born, September 25, 1982, the son of Colbert and Sandra Waddell Beets, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at Mercy Hospital. He graduated from Washington High School in 2000. Marcus was a self-employed Musician for the last five years. He accompanied "Psalms Gospel Group? of Cedar Rapids. Marcus had been a member of the Washington High School Jazz Band "Momentum? and the Washington High School Marching Band. He was currently an active member of the Word of Faith Pentecostal COGIC and a musician for the Gospel Tabernacle Church. Marcus also volunteered actively throughout the community. He will be greatly missed.
