Marcella E. Shaffer (Wood)

Marcella E. Shaffer, 79, a longtime resident of Fairfax, died Monday, May 5, 2008. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Tom Carver. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax.
Survivors include three sons, Gordon Shaffer and wife Colleen Tucker of Columbus, Ohio, Dan Shaffer and wife Jan of Ely, Iowa, and Randy Shaffer and wife Marilyn of Mount Vernon, Iowa; six grandchildren, Andrew, Nicolas, Erin, Casie, Tony and Star Shaffer; and a great-grandson, Jacob Shaffer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Rosella Ann Wood; a brother, Archie Eli Wood, Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Shaffer.
Marcella was born March 29, 1929, the daughter of Archie and Bernice (Brown) Wood, Sr., in Fayette, Iowa. On October 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Thomas L. Shaffer. He died March 2, 2004. For 26 years, Marcella worked as a secretary to the counselor at College Community Schools. She was a member of the Shueyville United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her Christmas tree coffee cakes, pies and banana bread. Marcella loved to read, crochet and work her puzzles. She especially loved animals and feeding the squirrels in Fairfax.
