Marcel C. Worthen, 87of 3035 12th Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a long battle with cancer. Private Services will be held. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley; his daughters, Susan Worthen of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Marcia (Kenneth) Lashbrook of Cedar Rapids; and his grandchildren, Aaron Lashbrook, Christina Lashbrook, Daniell Lashbrook, Eleanor Richfield and Edward Richfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marcel was born June 4, 1920, the son of Carlos and Mary Louise (Salmon) Worthen in Vinton, Iowa. He served his country with the United States Marines during World War II on Iwo Jima Guam and was among the first United States soldiers to enter Nagasaki after the atomic bomb. After World War II, he joined the United States Army Reserve, retiring in 1980.
Marcel was a Third Degree Mason of Crescent Lodge #25, a lifetime member of the American Legion Hanford Post 5 and the VFW Post 788.
Memorials may be made to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Avenue, Hiawatha, IA 52233, in memory of Marcel.
