Madlyn A. Johnson, 93, of Center Point, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017, at St. Luke’s Unity Point Hospice, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Center Point. Funeral Service will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church conducted by Pastor David Hansen. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Madlyn is survived by her daughter, Carol (James) Slach of Martelle; son, Larry (Carol) Johnson of Center Point; two grandchildren, Jason (Jackie) Parmenter, and Aaron (Amber) Slach; three step-grandchildren, James (Kobi) O’Brien, Ed (Diane) O’Brien, and Joseph O’Brien; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and six siblings.

Madlyn was born February 28, 1923, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of Charlie and Elsie (Mohr) Parmenter. She married Myron Johnson on February 26, 1950, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Madlyn was proud to be a farmer’s wife and enjoyed raising her chickens and gardening.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at St. Luke’s Unity Point Hospice for their care and support.

A memorial fund has been established in Madlyn’s memory.
