M. Darlene Vacha, 78, of 378 27th Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, November 21, 2008, in Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a long illness. Private family graveside service: Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, Iowa, by Dave Burris.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Sheetz of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Marcella (Tom) Reilly of Swisher, Deborah (Bill Carey) Stauffer of Columbus Junction, Rebecca (Ron) Fort of Central City and Michael Sheetz of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Michelle (Tom) Harbison, Quintin (Amanda) Fort, Matthew (Gwyn) Stauffer, Brandon (Katy) Fort and Layne and Landon Sheetz; and four great grandchildren, Logan and Caedon Harbison, Emersyn Fort and Audrey Fort.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Melissa Sheetz; and husbands, Lester Woods and Darwin Vacha.
Darlene was born December 28, 1929, in Washington County, the daughter of Floyd and Lenora (Hagist) Stover. She was married to Max Sheetz, Lester Woods and Darwin Vacha. Darlene was in the restaurant business owning the Shamrock Inn in Ainsworth, Iowa.
