M. Marie Sloan Peterson, 84, a resident of Bickford Cottage in Marion, died there on Tuesday, October 12, 2004, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where friends may call from 5 - 7 p.m. today (Wednesday.) Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include eleven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; a brother, Leroy Sloan; and a sister, Beulah Oldfather.
Marie was born the daughter of Jesse & Stella (Williams) Sloan on October 5, 1920, in Tipton, Iowa. Marie graduated from Volga High School in Volga, Iowa, and from Paris Academy in Cedar Rapids in 1940. On June 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Joseph L. Peterson at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Marie worked as a beautician in Tama and Cedar Rapids for several years prior to her marriage. In 1943, she began working for Collins Radio and retired from there in 1982. Marie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion and volunteered at Mercy Medical Center for many years following her retirement.
Marie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening and walks with her husband.
She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
