D. Lynn (Chmelicek) Pudil, 70, of Swisher, passed away from complications of COPD on Friday, July 21, 2017, at her son’s (Rob & Gena) home surrounded by her family. The family will greet friends 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at the funeral home conducted by Mike Olinger and Pastor Craig Peters. Immediately following services, family and friends are invited to gather at American Legion Post #671 of Swisher for dinner and refreshments.
Lynn is survived by her husband of 48 years, Steve; three sons, Rob (Gena) Pudil of Swisher, Kurt Pudil of Swisher, and Chad (Kris) Pudil of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kody (Rachelle) Pudil, Kourtney (Brandon) Janss, Wes Pudil, Josie Pudil, and Jayce Pudil; great-grandchildren, Charleigh, Daxton, and Austyn Pudil and Ellison Janss; brothers, Leonard Chmelicek Jr. of Ely and Mike Chmelicek of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patricia Nichols; in-laws, Ed and Irene Pudil; and brother-in-law, Brian Pudil.
Lynn was born August 26, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Lucille (Tomkins) Chmelicek. She graduated from Prairie High School in 1964. On May 6, 1969, Lynn was united in marriage to Steven Pudil in Brunswick, Georgia. She was employed at the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and Crandic Railroad, retiring in 2006. Lynn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #671 of Swisher and the Cedar Rapids Transportation Club.
Lynn enjoyed trips to Canada for over 40 years and spending time in their family cabin there. She loved her family, holiday gatherings, playing Skip Bo with Steve, and going to casinos. Lynn’s final wish was to enjoy a hot fudge sundae, which Rachelle brought to her.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Unity Point Hospice (especially Amy and Matt) for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Lynn and her family.
Memorials may be directed to Lynn’s family. They will distribute donations amongst the American Legion Auxiliary Post #671 of Swisher, Swisher Fire Department, and UnityPoint Hospice.
