Lynn Alan Dunn, 57, of 3545 Coffey Lane in Marion, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in St. Louis, Missouri. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 at Faith Lutheran Church, 155 Boyson Road, Marion by Pastor John Albertson. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church, and one hour prior to services on Monday. Burial: Wilcox Cemetery in Viola. Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Marion; his parents, Eugene (Irene Wears) Dunn of Solon; two sons, Ryan (Krista) Dunn of Waukee and Sean (Jennifer) Dunn of Marion; his siblings, Linda (Wayne) Blackford of Marion, Louan (Jim) Handke of Bellevue, Lance (Karen) Dunn of Marion, and Lisa (Jon) Hoffmann of West Des Moines; his in-laws, Jim and Lois Wild of Anamosa; and two brothers-in-law, David (Barb) Wild of Robins and Jim (Patti) Wild of Eldon, Missouri.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Ann Dunn.
Lynn was born July 16, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Eugene and Ruth Ann Dunn. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School and Kirkwood Community College. On August 18th, 1973, he married Jean Wild at Viola Methodist Church. Lynn was a lifelong farmer and was the owner of Lynn Dunn Construction. Lynn was very proud to have served our country for twenty years with the National Guard 234th Signal Battalion, achieving the rank of 1st Sergeant. He loved farming, sheep, and being a 4-H leader for the Prairie Union Wildcats. He was a mentor for the 4-Her’s, many of whom called him “Papa Lynn”. He was a member of the Linn County planning and zoning committee. Lynn was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church where he sang with the choir.
One of Lynn’s passions in life was the county fair industry. He served as a board member of the Linn County Fair with great pride and diligence. He also served as director of the Association of Iowa Fairs Northeast District.
Lynn was a loving husband, father, brother, and son. He was also a great friend to many and a good friend to all. His outlook on life was always positive and you never saw him without a smile.
Military honors will be provided by Iowa Army National Guard.
