Lyle Thomas "Tom" Abarr

Lyle Thomas Abarr, 68, formerly of 2442 Deborah Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois, after a long illness.
Services: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2007 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 1-4 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services Monday. Private Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Abarr; two sons, Michael (Sheri) Abarr of Ankeny and Steven (Luann) Abarr of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Terri Abarr of Grand Junction, CO; six grandchildren, Mitchell West of Grand Junction, CO, Tiffany Drake of Des Moines, Alishia Drake of Grand Junction, CO, Christopher and Kelsi Abarr of Ankeny and McKayla Abarr of Cedar Rapids; two step-grandchildren, Stacy and Ryan Klocke of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Janyce Abarr of Des Moines; and many friends and relatives.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Tom was born the son of Lyle and Lena L. (McPherson) Abarr, on June 3, 1938, in Redding, Iowa. He grew up in Hedrick, Iowa and graduated from Hedrick High School in 1956. On September 28, 1958, Lyle married Marie E. Sutter at Hedrick. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids.
Tom was a truck driver for 42 years working for BFC Transportation and A.B.F. Freight in Cedar Rapids. Tom retired from A.B.F. on September 30, 1999. He was a member of Teamster Union Local #238 and the Eagle?s Club in Cedar Rapids.
