Lyle Edward Schultz, 74, formerly from Center Point, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at his home in Bossier City, Louisiana after a long battle with cancer. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Joyce Aurner Schultz of Bossier City, Louisiana; his children, Lila (Anthony) Jones of Texas, Gretchen (Skip) Kelley of Thomasville, North Carolina, Krista (Steve) Piraino of Bossier City, Louisiana, and Eric (Allison) Schultz of Whitehall, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Justin Bennett, Travis Bennett and Lindsey Bennett, all of Texas, Jeremy Durbin of Charlotte, North Carolina, Avery Piraino and Ross Piraino of Bossier City, Louisiana, Nathaniel Schultz and Lucas Schultz of Whitehall, Pennsylvania; four great grandchildren; and an aunt, Vera Ritze Rhinehart Meyer of Center Point, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Fern (Ritze) Schultz; brothers, Stanley Schultz and Clyde Schultz; first wife, Mary May Hicks; and son, Daryl Schultz.
Lyle was born October 30, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Lloyd and Fern (Ritze) Schultz. He was married to Mary May Hicks in 1959. She passed away in 1962. He later married Joyce Carroll Aurner on September 5, 1964. After taking night classes for 13 years, he graduated from Coe College in 1978. Lyle spent most of his life working at Weyerhaeuser in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and as a packaging designer at International Paper in Aldan, Pennsylvania, and Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Lyle enjoyed 4-H and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years, even after his sons were no longer in Scouts. He was a Lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association and an NRA certified instructor. Lyle loved history and was in Friends of Stones River Battlefield as well as the Center Point and Alburnett Historical Societies.
