Lyle D. Kruse
March 31, 1950 — July 3, 2006
Lyle D. Kruse, 56, of Blairstown, IA, died July 3, 2006, in University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, from complications of a brush fire accident. Services: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Sue of Blairstown; daughters, Gigi (Mahlon) Pettengill of Worthington, MO and Becky Miller of Colorado Springs; son, Dusty (Carrie) Kruse of Atkins; grandchildren, Alexandra Miller, Kaelyn and Seth Pettengill and Kyleigh and Brady Kruse; a sister, Dixie Dubishar of Swisher; a brother, Dan (Ruby) Kruse of Cedar Rapids; and his faithful trucking companion his dog, Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Chad; and sister, Anita.
Lyle was born March 31, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leland and Dorothy (Walker) Kruse. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1968. On April 12, 1969, he married Sue Shaw in St. Patrick?s Church in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Link Belt for 14 years and then began driving truck for R. H. Hummer Jr. where he owned and operated his own truck. He was currently working for Elliott Brothers Truck Line of Dysart. Lyle enjoyed building hot rods and playing with his grandchildren.
Lyle was Sue?s high school sweetheart. He was a patient and available dad and an amazing grandpa. He will forever be remembered as "Poppy?, "Pop-Pop? and "Papa Lyle?.
A memorial fund has been established. Proceeds will go to the University of Iowa Hospital?s burn unit.
