Lyle Howard Ashlock, 85, of Center Point, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at home. Services: 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2005, at First Christian Church, Center Point, by Rev. John Caughron. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, with military honors.

Survivors include his children, Howard Ashlock and wife Sandy of Urbana, Alan Ashlock and wife Terry of Waterloo, Donn Ashlock of Brandon, Janet Gross and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids and Jody Morrissey and husband Joe of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a brother, Larry Ashlock and wife Kathy of Ft. Collins, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his wife, DeVee; his parents; a son, Norman Ashlock; a brother, Alton Ashlock and a sister, Helen Pickworth.

Lyle was born August 1, 1919, the son of Wilber J. and Ethel (Hamilton) Ashlock in Rupert, Idaho. On October 23, 1939, he was united in marriage to DeVee Oliphant in Cedar Rapids. Lyle served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a farmer, fence contractor and worked at Wilson Foods for ten years. Lyle was a member of the Toddville American Legion and the Iowa Trapper Association. He enjoyed building willow furniture, hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing the guitar and harmonica. Lyle was an inventor, builder, artist and cartoonist. The farm was always home to the family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
