Luvera “Minnie” Chrystal, 85, of Manchester, Iowa, died Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester following a short illness.

Luvera was born May 23, 1923 in Fern, Iowa, the daughter of Kellie and Caroline Siefken Maifeld. She graduated from Allison High School in Allison. On February 10, 1946, Luvera was united in marriage to Burdette Chrystal at the Golden Congregational United Church of Christ, Ryan. The couple had a dairy farm near Ryan, where Luvera was a homemaker. She then went to work in Manchester for Mode O-Day from 1972-1983 and the Department of Human Services from 1983 ?" 1994. Burdette passed away in 1983.

Luvera was a member of the Ryan Golden Congregational United Church of Christ where she served as church organist for 25 years.

Luvera’s family includes her sisters, Beth (Richard) Bailey of Denver, Colorado; Dona (James) DeBower of Audubun, Iowa; and sisters-in-law Dorothy Maifeld of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Loretta Husmann of Manchester, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dee Wasia Orr of Manchester, Iowa.

Luvera was preceded in death by her husband, Burdette Chrystal; her parents, Kellie & Caroline Maifeld; two sisters, Ivadeen Maifeld and Darlene VanDePol; two brothers Donald and Orville Maifeld; and a brother-in-law, Dennis VanDePol.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
