Luther Dixon, 55, 1501 B Avenue N.E., Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, of a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Gospel Tabernacle Church by the Rev. Wendell Beets. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial: Linwood Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Dixon, two sons, Luther Jr. and Aaron Matthew; four daughters, Dana Dixon and companion Derrick Mitchell, Lisa Tucker and husband Chris, Traci Schellhorn and husband Tim, all of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Ness and husband George, of Dubuque; his mother, Johnnie Mae; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Cora Cooks and husband Alvin, Bobby Jean Mims and husband Ben, Johnnie Ray, Ella Murphy and husband Eugene, Stella Martin and husband Edward (Junior); many nieces and nephews and their children; best friends, Archie Collier and Marvin Crop; and his favorite nephew, Ben Dixon, all of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his father, one sister and three brothers.

Luther was born January 3, 1948, in Louise, Mississippi, the son of Bob and Johnnie Mae Brown Dixon. He worked for Olderog and Triangle Bandag until he started his own business in 1986 called Dixon Tire, (now Calvin?s Auto) until he took ill last fall. Luther was a very hard worker and very strong minded (bull-headed). He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors.
