Lumir E. Dostal Jr., 76, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion, by Rev. Howard Chapman. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion. Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military honors provided by American Legion Post #298 of Marion. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Sara; children, Doug (Becky) Dostal of Fort Collins, CO, and Dawn (Matt McFadden) Thilmany of Fort Collins, CO; five grandchildren, Emma Ruth, Madeline Grace, Samual Jacob, Lydia Renae, and Elizabeth Anne; and sister, Darlene (Jim) Mollenhauer of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Allen; and daughter, Diana Lynn.
Lumir was born August 31, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lumir Sr. and Libby (Kudrna) Dostal. He graduated from Marion High School with the Class of 1954. Lumir attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1961. He married Sara Busse on June 23, 1962 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion; they celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. Lumir was a veteran of the U.S. army and retired after 27 years as Lt. Colonel. He was a long time farmer and community leader. Lumir was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion for over 50 years. He was on the Linn Mar School Board for many years and was an Iowa State Alumni.
