Luetta L. Schaffner, 80, a resident of the Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, Iowa, died there Monday, September 29, 2008, from cancer. Services: 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Robert Pleiness. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Millersburg Cemetery, Millersburg.
Survivors include her sisters, Evelyn (Ivan) Strief and Shirley (Glen) King; brothers, Lavern Ebel and Larry (Carrol) Ebel; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Luetta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cloyd; and brother, Melvin Ebel.
Luetta was born May 27, 1928, in Victor, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Lillie (Calvert) Ebel. On April 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Cloyd Schaffner. After 27 years of marriage, Cloyd died on August 27, 1979. Luetta worked for Midwest Foods, Armstrongs Departments Store and Montgomery Wards.
Luetta was a member of Good News Baptist Church for many years, the senior citizens Caleb Club, where she enjoyed many club trips, and a Birthday Club. Other joys were spending time at the Milestone Center, helping friends by driving them to their appointments and other places and babysitting.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
