Luella Sarah Wagner, 93, a resident of Maple Crest Manor Care Center in Fayette, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the care center, following a lingering illness. Services: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until service time the day of services at the church. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include her sons, Louis McEnroe and wife Mary of Algona, Gordon Mullin and friend Lavonne Brown of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Barbara Rowley and husband Keith of Fayette; a brother, Crimb Gunder of Cedar Rapids; fifteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ivan Mullin and Frank Wagner; her beloved daughter, Dixie Waters, who died April 20, 1996; her son-in-law, Irving Waters; two brothers, Bill and Carl; and three sisters, Bernadette, Rachael and Irene.
Luella was born March 11, 1911, the daughter of Joseph and Maude (Tatro) Gunder in Wesley, Iowa. She received her education in a rural country school in Kossuth County. Luella greatly enjoyed being with her family; watching her children become successful, her grandchildren grow to adulthood, and her great-grandchildren come into the growing family circle. Luella was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and traveling. She moved to Fayette in April of 2000 to be closer to her daughter, Barbara. Due to failing health, she entered Maple Crest Manor Care Center in June of 2001. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Fayette and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.
Luella was always there for her family with words of wisdom and a ready smile. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent. Instead, a memorial fund has been established in Luella?s memory.
