Lucille L. Perrinjaquet Callies, 89, of Manchester, Iowa, died Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the Community Congregational Church, Manchester, with a luncheon to follow. Arrangements by Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Keith; son, Richard (Kathy) Holthaus of Urbandale, Iowa; stepchildren, Kevin (Lori) Callies of Canon City, Colorado, and Kathy (Steve) Tillman of Monte Vista, Colorado; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her siblings, Betty Williams of Edgewood, Iowa, Eugene Perrinjaquet of Manchester, Virginia Waco of Pacific Palisades, California, and Shirley Meisner of Anamosa, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George and Edward Perrinjaquet; and sisters, Dorothy Basten and Marie Thurn.
Lucille was born July 1, 1926, the daughter of Marcel and Carrie (Krieg) Perrinjaquet, on a dairy farm near Edgewood, Iowa. She was raised on the farm and helped with the bottling and delivering of milk. Lucille graduated from Edgewood High School, where she enjoyed cheerleading for the basketball teams. On March 26, 1960, she was united in marriage to Keith Callies in Delaware County.
Lucille started working at Square D and Strawberry Point Drug Store. She began her dental assistant career in Edgewood for Dr. Hollingsworth and then with Dr. Thompson in Manchester, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Congregational Churches in Edgewood and Manchester.
Lucille and her friend Bonnie Greve enjoyed assisting her nephew, Russ Holroyd, sanding and staining custom cabinets. She was a longtime volunteer for Camp Courageous and volunteered at church. She also enjoyed wintering at Apache Junction, Arizona, during the winter months for several years where she met many friends. Lucille, Keith and their dog traveled all over 48 states delivering and demonstrating orbit compost screening plants and meeting more friends. She was known for her quick smile (which Keith called her million dollar smile) for everyone and friendly attitude toward all. Both Keith and Lucille agree their life together has been a “Great Ride.”
