Lowell Dale Pollock, 77, of Walker, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Cedar Rapids, from complications following surgery. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Walker United Methodist Church, Walker, by the Rev. Norm Kelley. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 6, 2010, at the church. Burial: Walker Cemetery. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker, is in charge of the arrangements.
Lowell was born in the Mt. Auburn area on July 16, 1933, the son of Dorothy Pollock Sallee and Hiram Pollock. He graduated from Vinton High School in 1951. Lowell joined and served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees from 1952 – 1956. He married Laura Ferguson in Urbana and they lived most of their married years in Walker. He worked at FMC for 17 years and then did tiling and backhoe work until his death.
Laura and Lowell enjoyed spending their time in South Alabama and at home with their family.
Lowell will be dearly missed by his wife, Laura and their four children, Brenda (David) Kercheval of Montezuma, Timothy (Lynne) Pollock of Andalusia, Alabama, Jolinda (Mike) Schatzle of Coggon and Brett (Ann) Pollock of Vinton.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jamie Wisse, Joel, Laura and Jacob Kercheval, Melissa and Matthew Pollock, Katie Cook, Andrew Schatzle, Chandler Johnson and Allison, and Maranda Pollock; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Melvin (Kathy) Pollock of Evansdale, Ray (Carilyn) Pollock of Cedar Rapids and Gene (Maxine) Pollock of Kailua, Hawaii; two sisters, Marilyn Oliver of Cedar Rapids and Beverly Ohm of Palo; and the many friends he had throughout his life.
Lowell was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Sallee; his father, Hiram Pollock and his step-father, Ernst Sallee.
Lowell enjoyed his many years of farming and working the earth tiling and excavating with his back hoe. He loved a good day’s work and was known by his grandchildren as “Papa Backhoe”.
A memorial has been established in Lowell’s memory.
