Louise M. Engle, 89, of Marion, died Sunday, January 26, 2003, in St. Luke?s Living Center East in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, by the Rev. John Gossman. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion. Graveside Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Surviving are a son, Wayne Engle and wife Shirley of Marion and their children, Dave Engle and wife Maureen of Cedar Rapids, Dan Engle and wife Janet of Marion, Doug Engle and wife Lisa of Marion and Sue Engle of Marion; a daughter, Phyllis Mahoney of Bryan, Ohio and her children, John Mahoney of Gary, Indiana, Joe Mahoney and wife Vickie of Natick, Massachusetts, Laurel Dhalla and husband Salim of Bangkok, Thailand, Mary Dickson and husband Craig of Bryan, Ohio, Kathryn Mahoney of Marion, Anne Marsh and husband Lt. Col. Terrence of San Pedro, California and Tim Mahoney of Gary, Indiana.

Also surviving are twenty great-grandchildren, Melissa, Luke, Kristen, Ben, Mallory, D.J., Lindsay, Sarah, Craig, Jesse, Rachael, Christopher, Elizabeth, Paul, Alanya, Aran, Craig Jr., Cecilia, Michael and Timothy; and a great-great-granddaughter, Olivia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters, a brother, a granddaughter, Margaret Mahoney and a son-in-law, Don Mahoney.

Louise was born the daughter of Ira and Margaret Jones Miller on May 24, 1913, in Ottumwa. She was united in marriage to Philip Engle in 1931 in Ottumwa. He died in 1939. Louise worked at the Lowenberg Bakery in Ottumwa for eighteen years. She then moved to Chicago to be close to her daughter and family. While in Chicago, Louise was employed at Northwestern University in Evanston in the Alumni Department until 1976, when she retired. She later moved to Marion to be close to her son and family.

Louise enjoyed a lively discussion regarding current events and political issues. Her special interests included reading, cooking and going to garage sales, but her main love was her family. Louise was a loving mother and grandmother, who touched many lives in many different ways. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial fund has been established with Linnhaven Inc. in Louise?s memory.
