Louis Roland Manz, 91, of 1301 Elmhurst Drive N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, March 17, 2008, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services: 6:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial: Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
Survivors include his son, Daniel (Barbara) Manz of West Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and grandson, Mark (Kristin) Manz of West Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Hazel.
Louis was born October 24, 1916, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Louis and Marie (Fischer) Manz. He married Hazel Johnson. She died in 1980. Louis served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during WWII. He was a map tech for the Wisconsin Electric Power Company for 43 years, retiring in 1979.
Louis was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Milwaukee and he enjoyed the Lutheran Hour on the radio. He was an avid model railroader and enjoyed watching trains and building model railcars. Photography was also one of his joys.
