Louis A. (Lou) Ryan, 90, of Manchester, formerly of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Manchester. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester is in charge of arrangements.

Lou was born to Frank and Helen (McElligott) Ryan on a farm near Ryan and attended rural schools and graduated from St. John’s School in 1942. Lou was drafted in 1944 and spent two years in the army during WWII, serving in the 406th Infantry Regiment Co B in the European Theater of Operations. He returned to farming in 1947. In 1947, Lou purchased the Tommy Holtz Case Machinery business in Manchester and later the J.M. Jones & Sons Ford Tractor business.

On September 1, 1956 Lou married Mary Louise Wilson at St. Mary’s in Manchester and they moved to Ames where he attended ISU. Following graduation in 1959, he started his career in the engine and machinery business in Milwaukee. After 35 years in Dallas, which included trips with his faithful wife to many places, he moved to Marion to care for his wife full time. Mary died in 2009 and Lou moved to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester in July of 2014.

Lou is survived by three sisters; Rita (Gerald) Landherr of Austin, MN, Rose Marie of Iowa City, and Marion Steins of Long Beach, CA; and a sister-in-law, Bernita Wilson of Manchester. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a brother, Bernard; a sister, Donna Talley; and brothers-in-law, Bob Talley and Russ Steins.

Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa.
