Lorraine Jean Sweet, 63, of Marion, died Sunday, December 28, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, following a brief illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 - 6 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2009 at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; 2 daughters, Jamie (Eric) Christenson of Marion, and Lisa (Jeff) Andersen of Cedar Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Jonathan & Robbie Andersen, and Anna & Ava Christenson; 1 brother, Larry Hollingsworth of Sigourney; 3 sisters, Virginia Bottorff of Silvis, Illinois, Maxine Chatwin of Glendora, California, and Beverly Conger of Keswick, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Roy, Rex, Melvin, and Marvin Hollingsworth; and 4 sisters, Donna Tressler, Roseanna Hamilton, Linda Hahn, and Lucille Bottorff.
Lorrie was born October 17, 1945, the daughter of Adna and Edna (Patterson) Hollingsworth, in Ottumwa, Iowa. She attended Sigourney High School, graduating in 1963 and attended Iowa Wesleyan College on a music scholarship. Lorrie loved playing the trumpet and French horn in the high school band and was fortunate enough to play in the Southeast Iowa Symphony as a high school student. She married Robert Sweet on September 10, 1966. Lorrie spent many relaxing hours tending to her yard and flowers but golf was her real passion. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
