Lorraine was born outside of Walker, Iowa on the family farm on July 20, 1928 in the same house and in the same room as her father, Elmer. She attended country school and then graduated from Walker High School. Soon after, she married Paul. They made their home in Walker. Lorraine worked as a cook at the Walker Elementary School for over 30 years. She loved serving food to all the children (especially to her grandchildren). Lorraine also worked at the Corner Tavern for over 30 years. She loved to joke around with her customers. Lorraine excelled at baking kolaches. She was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan, she would often be found listening to their games on the radio. Lorraine was extremely proud of her Czech heritage. It was something she talked about often. More than all else, she loved her family. Spending time with family was always the highlight of her day. Many lazy afternoons were spent together as a family at the Merritt cabin on the Wapsi near Troy Mills.
Lorraine’s family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to Ann and the entire Hospice of Mercy staff for taking such good care of Lorraine these last few months.
