Loretta I. Ritchie, 78, of 2443 Illinois Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, January 19, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2006, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. You?re invited to come in casual attire. Survivors include her husband Gaylen; son, Richard (Meri) Ritchie and their children, Jamie, Jesse, and Thomas of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky; daughter, Scotta Lynne Jones and her daughter, Christie Shaver (Brandon Nesteby) and their daughter, Taylor Jayde of Cedar Rapids; and stepchildren, Matt and (Barb) Jones and their daughters, Payton and Kourtney, and Kelly (Greg) Scheffert; and two brothers, Earl Cassidy of Cedar Rapids and Pete (Katheryn) Cassidy of Yuma, Arizona; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Loretta was born January 20, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Jess and Maude (Metzger) Cassidy. On March 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Gaylen Ritchie. Loretta graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids. She worked at Quaker Oats and was a daycare provider for many children. For 8 years she worked at Jolly Rogers Campground. Loretta enjoyed traveling, dancing, quilting, playing yatzee, the color orange, and eating at the Chrome Horse. For 11 years she was president of the VFW Auxillary. She also loved taking care of her family and boating in their boat "Let the Good Times Roll?. She was a dear mother that was loved by all.
