Loren E. Mangold, 85, of Coggon, died Saturday, August 23, 2003, in the Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa, Iowa, due to complications of injuries received in a fall prior to going to the Anamosa Care Center. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2003, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon, by the Rev. Ron Lewis. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 28) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Coggon, at a later date.
Surviving are his wife of over sixty-three years, Lillian; their children, Gaylord (Mary Ann) Mangold of Orange Park, Florida, Myron Mangold of Coggon and Rick Mangold of Coggon; two sisters, Blanche (Paul) Carr of Manchester and Fern Codey of Fort Meyers, Florida; and two brothers, Norman Mangold of Coggon and Wilbur (Donna) Mangold of Coggon.
Also surviving is a grandson, Kevin Mangold. Loren was preceded in death by his parents.
Loren was born the son of William and Allie (Whitney) Mangold on October 16, 1917, in rural Coggon. On July 1, 1940, in Waverly, he was united in marriage to Lillian Baumann. Loren and Lillian farmed in the Coggon area for many years. He later worked at the Coggon Creamery and at the John Deere/Baxter-Dvorak Implement dealer. He also was active with his brother on his dairy farm.
Loren had a special love of music, especially polka music. He enjoyed working on cars and was an avid outdoorsman.
