Loraine "Clarkie? Rettig, 85, of Manchester, Iowa died Monday evening, August 30, 2004 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester after a short illness.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at the Community Congregational Church in Manchester with Rev. Kurt Pasko officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Loraine was born July 19, 1919 in Manchester, the daughter of Howard W. and Carrie I. (Reed) Clark. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1936. Loraine then attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Her family moved to Manchester where she worked for A.M. Cloud, Farm Sales and Farm Loans. In 1945, Loraine went to Des Moines as a Committee Clerk for Senator Irving Long. She then worked in Cedar Rapids for the Equitable of Iowa Farm Loan Department Branch. In 1949, Clarkie returned to Manchester and worked for Thomas H. Tracey and later at the Delaware County Treasurer?s office. On August 26, 1972, Loraine was united in marriage to Ewald N. "Walt? Rettig at the Community Congregational Church in Manchester. The couple made their home in Manchester. Walt died January 7, 1976. She continued to live in their home and care for her mother.
Loraine was a member of the Community Congregational Church, Manchester and was an avid golfer and member of the Manchester Country Club. She played poker and bridge in card clubs and also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her cousins, Liz and Merle "Van? Van Sickle of Cedar Rapids, Lucille Larson of Cedar Falls, Onnalle Humphery of LeGrand, and Barbara Lorenzen of TX; her adopted family, Rev. Kurt Pasko & his wife Dulcie Scripture of Manchester, and their children, Todd & Dulcie Mangold of Manchester and Bronson & Deborah Pasko of Bristol, TN; and her many close friends.
Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, Howard W. & Carrie I. Clark and her husband, E.N. "Walt? Rettig.
