Lona Helen (Durey) Ryan, 74, went to her Heavenly home on September 8, 2009, following a short battle with cancer. Graveside Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester by JoEllen Rehder. Family will greet friends at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Manchester, immediately following the graveside service.

Lona was born to Harold and Edith (Eldredge) Durey on March 21, 1935, at the family farm in Prairie Township, southwest of Manchester. She attended Prairie Center School and graduated from Manchester High School. She was employed by the Swift Law Firm in Manchester before her marriage to Larry Ryan.

After her marriage, she was employed at several businesses in the Cedar Rapids area, most recently at the Overhead Door Company in Customer Service.

As a child, she enjoyed helping with chores and having fun with family and neighborhood friends. As a teen, she enjoyed youth activities, particularly roller-skating.

Lona was impeccable with house keeping and yard work. She enjoyed dancing and eating out with friends.

Survivors include her three sons, Scott (Diane) of Marion, Steve of Cedar Rapids, and Rusty “Ross” of Chicago, Illinois. Other survivors include two grand-daughters, Leah and Laura Ryan; three sisters, Georgia Griffith of Normal, Illinois, Dorothy “Bonnie” (Dick) Brondel of Hiawatha and Lucille (Grady) Zehr of Winfield, Illinois; a special brother, Allyn (Ilona) Durey of Manchester; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an older brother, Glenn, in 1963.

Lona will be missed by her family and friends. Special thanks to Bonnie, Jeff, and Eleanor for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Luke’s Hospice, 1026 A Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, in Lona’s memory.
