Lois was born September 29, 1923, in rural Jones County to Harold and Martha (Kaufman) Young. The family moved from Anamosa to Marion in 1936. Lois completed her 8th grade education at Dairy Dale School in 1937, and went on to graduate from Marion High School in 1941. Lois was employed at Collins Radio for 42 years. She was appreciative of her life of freedom due to sacrifices made by her family. Lois found joy in the outdoor world. She was an avid gardener who especially enjoyed caring for her flowers. Lois enjoyed baking cookies and pies and sharing them with her friends and family. She would give a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Lois was a member of the Christian Business Women’s Association and volunteered at Westfield Elementary School where she listened to children read and helped educational assistants with projects. She had also been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion since 1938, and was very active and served on several committees. Lois will be deeply missed by family and friends who loved her. The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to Marion First United Methodist Church.
