Lois Wilma (Hollan) Samek, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016. According to her wishes, cremation was handled by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at St. James United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
Survivors include her daughter, Eileen (Gary) Samek of Kalamazoo, Michigan; son, Kenneth (Judith) Samek of Waterloo, Iowa; grandsons, Brian Samek of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Ross (Ashley) Samek of Waterloo, and Benjamin Samek of Waterloo; great-grandson, Owen Samek of Waterloo; sister, Bernice Brooks of Cedar Rapids; brother, Charles Hollan of Cedar Rapids; and nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, David in 2009.
Lois was born on March 3, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Anna (Kroupa) Hollan. She was a life-long resident of Cedar Rapids. Lois married David Samek on May 23, 1948. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and was employed by Merchants National Bank and Pierson’s Flower Shop. In retirement, Lois and David enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. In their later years, Lois and David were residents of Meth-Wick Community.
Lois was a life-long member of St. James United Methodist Church where she joyfully served on many committees in United Methodist Women and Sociables. Lois focused her Christian life on being a caring wife, mother, grandmother and devoted friend.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Meth-Wick Community and Unity Point Hospice for the care and support given to Lois.
