MANCHESTER- Lois Mae Philipp, 81, of Manchester, died September 17, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester by Rev. John Flaherty. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Manchester.
Lois was born on September 22, 1929 in Edgewood, the daughter of Eugene E. and Edna I. (Binning) Whitehead. She graduated from Greeley High School in 1947. On September 30, 1947, Lois was united in marriage to Ernest A. Philipp at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Greeley. The couple farmed near Strawberry Point before moving to Manchester in 1954. Lois worked for eleven years at Super Value, nine years at Hauser’s Culligan Soft Water and twenty-three years as a teller at First State Bank.
Lois was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, the American Legion Auxiliary, V. F. W. Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Societies, C.D.A., Cluster Mission Sewing Group, and a past-member of the Friends of the Library.
Lois is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Suzanne (Terry) Burgin of Georgetown, TX and Nancy (Ed) Harding of Glenwood, IA; six grandchildren, Beth (John) Varan, Brian Burgin, Thomas Burgin, Sara Harding, Adam (Danielle) Harding and Aaron Harding; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy Seibert and Joyce Andrews of Manchester, Mary (Milo) Timmerman of Delhi, Jean (Lyle) Beck of Dubuque, and Carole (Don) Jensen of Blairstown; two brothers, Glen Whitehead of Des Moines and Gary (Judy) Whitehead of Delhi; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Edna Whitehead; her husband, Ernest in 1997; an infant brother, two infant sisters; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Andrews and Chuck Seibert.
