Lois Jean Nosek, 56, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at the Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Family will greet friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a wake service will begin at 6 p.m. Burial: St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her husband, Joe; children, Nicholas, Emily (Joe Wiltsey) and Jennifer, all of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Keson Wiltsey; mother, Rose Oswald of Monticello; brothers, Jim, Don (Nancy), Leon, Dean (Lisa), Paul and Ed Oswald; sisters, Ann (Bill) Buckner, Janet Fisher, Betty Bagley, and Joan (Barney) Dirks; her nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Patrica Nosek; sister-in-law, Pamela Nosek; and a brother-in-law, Patrick Nosek.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; father; father-in-law, Franklin Nosek; brother-in-law, John Bagley; and a brother-in-law, Peter Nosek.

Lois was born on April 13, 1955, the daughter of Earl and Rose (Merfeld) Oswald, in Cascade, Iowa, and was raised in Monticello, Iowa. She attended Sacred Heart grade school, Monticello High School and Kirkwood College. On May 28, 1982, Lois married Joseph Nosek in Iowa City, Iowa and lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Lois worked at Rockwell Collins for 37 years.

Lois was on the Ecumenical Council, where she served as secretary for 14 years, a Union Stewart at Rockwell Collins and served as secretary of the Mound View Neighborhood Association for 16 years. Lois also volunteered for Theatre Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed reading, collecting books and gardening.

A special thanks to St. Luke’s Hospic, Peggy and Bruce, and staff at Living Center Wes, Sally Peggy, Ann Marie, Shawn, and Lisa, for their care given to Lois.

Lois was a one in a million person who had a disease, CJD, that only one in a million people have.
