Lois T. Fangmann, 81, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Good Neighbor Home.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 20, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. John Flaherty. Visitation: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 19, 2011 with a 2:00 p.m. Scripture Service at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester. Additional visitation, one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa.

Lois was born January 3, 1930 in rural Dyersville, the daughter of Carl and Salome (Jaeger) Gudenkauf. She attended school in Worthington and helped raise her younger siblings. On June 3, 1947, Lois was united in marriage to Edwin F. “Bud” Fangmann at St. Francis Basilica in Dyersville. The couple settled in the Dyersville area before moving to a farm near Earlville. In 1958, they moved to the Dundee area to farm until retiring in 1998. Bud died November 21, 2003.

Lois was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester and the St. Mary Rosary Society.

She helped “Bud” on the farm, enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and her children. She was best known for her “homemade bread.”

Lois is survived by eleven children; Bob (Karen) Fangmann of Toddville, Mary Kay (Vic) Dannenbrink of Manchester, Doris (Dave) Lawrence of Dundee, Darlene (Steve) Cornwell of Greeley, Dick (Leanne) Fangmann of Manchester, Herb (Mary) Fangmann of Rowley, RoseAnn Hiatt of Manchester, Linda (Gary) Sigler of O-Fallon, MO, Kathy (Don) McCurdy of Dundee, Terri (Ray) Cooksley of Manchester, and Carla (Mark) Dingbaum of Robins; twenty-nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six siblings, Edna Wolter and Lloyd (Lois) Gudenkauf both of Dubuque, Joyce Peterson of Phoenix, AZ, Mae (Jack) Venneman and Flora Ornelas both of Tucson, AZ, John (Barb) Gudenkauf of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Armella Schroeder of Dyersville; and many nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin F. “Bud” Fangmann; her parents, Carl & Salome Gudenkauf; and three brothers, Carl Jr., Alfred “Al” and Godfrey “Fay” Gudenkauf and a great-granddaughter, Karley Lawrence.

A memorial fund has been established in Lois’ memory.
