Lois Kurth-Dietrich, 96, of Birmingham, Michigan, died March 17, 2004 at the Oakwood Hospital, Dearborn, Michigan, after a short illness.
Inurnment services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, April 9, 2004, at the Fairview Cemetery, Earlville, Iowa. Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, is in charge of local arrangements.
Lois was born on September 4, 1907, in Earlville, Iowa, the daughter of Sidney & Bessie (Rippon) Hunt. She graduated from Earlville High School in 1923 and received her teaching certificate from Lenox College in Hopkinton, Iowa. Lois taught in the Earlville and Grinnell areas. She married Ernest "Dick? Kurth and the couple lived in the Grinnell, Iowa. Dick died in 1950. On June 11, 1955, Lois married John Walter "J.W.? Dietrich and the couple lived in the Detroit, Michigan area. J.W. died on March 12, 1994.
Lois was an active member of the Kirk in the Hills church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a substitute teacher in the Detroit school system. Lois loved playing bridge and golfed in a league until she was 91 years old. She did a lot of flower and vegetable gardening and sewed many of her own clothes.
Lois is survived by a stepdaughter and her husband, Phyllis & Ralph Cornell of Dearborn, Michigan; a brother and his wife, Merle & Dorothy Hunt of Dubuque; and by a sister-in-law, Velma Hunt of Earlville, Iowa.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney & Bessie Hunt; her two husbands, Ernest "Dick? Kurth and John Walter "J.W.? Dietrich; a stepdaughter; Betty Laub; two sisters, Grace Mitchell and Leola Ingles; and three brothers, Cecil, Floyd, and Lynn Hunt.
