Lloyd E. Williams, 82, of Fairfax, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2002, at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church, Walford, Iowa, by the Rev. Mike Townsley. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2002, at the church. Burial: Oakhill Cemetery, Williamsburg, Iowa. Arrangements are with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include a son, Scott Williams and wife Ursula; a daughter, Sally Williams; a son-in-law, Bob Cook, all of Fairfax; five grandchildren, Betsy Cook, Katy Dohrmann, Emilie Williams, Morgan Williams and Claudia Shebetka; two great-grandchildren, Chloe Dohrmann and Chase Harrison; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Betty; a daughter, Nancy Cook; three sisters, Jeanette, Dorothy and Maidie; and two brothers, Ralph and Gilbert.

Lloyd was born January 19, 1920, the son of Morgan and Claudia (Edwards) Williams, in Williamsburg, Iowa, where he grew up and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1937. He served in the United States Army with the Second Infantry Division during World War II. His European duty included the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of Czechoslovakia. On August 11, 1943, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty? Bendorf in Caledonia, Minnesota. She died November 29, 2001. Together, Lloyd and Betty farmed in the Fairfax area for 50 years. He was a member of the Clover Ridge Methodist Church, Fairfax American Legion #572, and former member and president of the College Community School Board.

His main interests were his family and friends, his farm, University of Iowa athletics, attending annual Second Infantry reunions and activities, and his fishing trips to Canada. He will be greatly missed and the memories he has left will always be treasured by his family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Clover Ridge United Methodist Church or Fairfax American Legion #572 in memory of Lloyd.
