Lloyd J. Paulsen, 84, of 309 29th Street Drive S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, by Father Dennis Cahill. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the church, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military honors provided by American Legion Hanford Post #5. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children, Lynn (Barb) Piersen of Hiawatha, Lynda (Ron) Boyson of Gathersburg, Maryland, Lance (Marilyn) Paulsen of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and Lloyd (Debra) Paulsen, Jr. of Cedar Rapids; step-son, Michael “Bud” Whorton of Waterloo; step-daughter, Susie Whorton of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Jarl, Jens and Jenna Pierson, Brian and Lance Paulsen, Terra Chmielewski, R.J., Shannon and Heidi Boysen and Dara Krolick; nine great grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, Shauna Williams, who always called him papa; and a sister, Gen Kueney of Keystone, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy; and brothers, Richard, Leonard, Robert and Dale Paulsen.
Lloyd was born April 19, 1923, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Herman and Mary (O’Brien) Paulsen. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On December 28, 1998, he married Marilyn in Cedar Rapids. Lloyd worked for Penford Products for 38 years and owned and operated Paulsen Painting for over 40 years.
Lloyd enjoyed bingo, gambling, fishing, dancing, playing pool and was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. His biggest joy was spending time with his family.
Memorials may be made in Lloyd’s memory to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 8th Avenue, Hiawatha, Iowa 52233.
