Lloyd G. Burgess, 80, of Gladstone, Missouri, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, February 14, 2003, in North Kansas City Hospital, North Kansas City, Missouri, of complications from pneumonia. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear, with military rites by VFW Post 788. Burial: Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at the funeral home.

Survivors include four daughters, Lloy Glover and husband Bob of Gladstone, Missouri, Suzanne Greco and husband Tony of Pacific Palisades, California, Barb Wood and husband Mike of Washington, Iowa, and Becky Butler and husband John of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three sons, Mitchell Burgess and wife Robin Greene of Los Angeles, California, and New York, New York, Bradley Burgess of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Bryan Burgess of Kansas City, Missouri; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Cox and Mary Sue Dabney; and his wife, Virginia.

Lloyd was born December 28, 1922, the son of Lloyd and Ruth Mitchell Burgess, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. In 1945, Lloyd was united in marriage to Virginia M. Colbert in Washington, D.C. She died August 19, 1999. He worked at Northwestern Railroad for eight years and FMC Corporation for 25 years, retiring in 1986. Lloyd was a member of VFW Post 14000.
