Lillian G. Howard, 97, a resident of Bickford Cottage in Marion, formerly of Des Moine, died Saturday, December 7, 2002, at Bickford Cottage, following a long life. Graveside Services: 11a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Des Moines by Rev. John Holcombe. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Ferren of San Demas, California; a niece; seven nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dwight; four brothers; and two sisters.
Lillian was born April 21, 1905, in West Union, the daughter of George and Edith Mae (Howard) Sullivan. She graduated from West Union High School in 1923 and from 4C?s Business School in 1925. On July 24, 1931, she married Dwight Howard in Muskegon, Michigan. He died July 14, 1945. Lillian worked as a bookkeeper for Green Colonial Furnace, Schaal Heating & Cooling and American Handicraft before retiring in 1967. She was a member of Highland Park Christian Church in Des Moines and the Garden Club. Lillian volunteered for many years at the blood bank, election boards and Iowa Methodist Hospital Gift Shop.
