Lillian Margaret Bowers, 85, of Toddville, passed away Monday, December 14, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point conducted by Charles Sauer. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
Lillian was born February 21, 1924, in McCausland, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Grace (Farber) Schultz. She met Harold Bowers while he worked for the Rock Island Railroad in Toddville and they were married February 26, 1943, in Toddville. They were married 66 years, before he passed away June 9, 2009.
Lillian was a homemaker, devoted wife and loving mother. She loved crocheting, gardening, and caring for her kitties and birds. She also had a passion for being friends to her many pen pals that she had made.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Sauer of Rowley, Linda Sauer of Center Point, Cheryl (Gale) Birch of Mesa, Arizona, Joyce (Virgil Elsbury) Bowers of Cedar Rapids; and a son, Roy A. (Sharon) Bowers of Cedar Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Schultz of Center Point.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Bowers; a daughter, Heneritta Mays; and three sons-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Lillian’s memory.
