Lewayne “L.C.” Calvin Howe, 88, of Central City, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 in his home. Family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at the American Legion Wapsie Post #421 in Central City conducted by Reverend Josh Hansen. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City with full military flag and rifle salute provided by the American Legion Wapsie Post #421 and the AmVet Post #37.

L.C. is survived his wife, Connie; step-children; step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Donalee (Dick) Schellin of Marion, Iowa, Marabelle Frye, of Steven Point, Wisconsin; and brother, Arlen (Freida) Howe of Central City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn on July 3, 1994; two sisters, Gayline and Ethelyn; and four brothers, John, Verlet, Donald, and Delwin.

L.C. was born on May 26, 1927, to John and Ethline (Goodyear) Howe. He served in the United State Marine Corps during World War II. He married Marilyn “Maggie” Mundy on June 19, 1948. L.C. was a self-taught general contractor and engineer. He began putting in bases for water towers, with his first one being in Hazelton, Iowa in 1952. He continued this trade throughout the United States along with the help of his wife Marilyn until 1992. He also was involved in dirt excavating putting in water mains and sewers. L.C. and Marilyn were instrumental in the establishing of the Meadow View Country Club in Central City. L.C. married Connie (Hurst) on June 17, 2000, near Alburnett. He owned and flew his own plane using it for work and pleasure. He was a life member of the American Legion Wapsie Post #421 of Central City, the Amvet Post #37, and the Citizen of the Year of Kiwanis Club. He served as a council member and Mayor of Central City. When he retired he became involved in dirt track late model racing working with many drivers and friends. He will be missed by his two dogs and best friends, Sam and Sadie.
