L. Gene “Speedy” Sever, 85, of Cedar Rapids died Friday, September 28, 2012. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Craig Peters. The family will greet friends from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his daughters, Linda Chavez and Kathy Sever both of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Sever of Norwalk.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; two sons, Tom and Genie; and a grandson, Larry Pernicka Jr.
Gene was born December 2, 1926, in Wick, Iowa, the son of Ida Sever and William Woverton. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On September 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to Janice Spicer. Gene owned and operated Speedy Delivery Service.
Gene was a charter member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and the Friday Morning Bible Study.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church or to the family.
