Lester George Rehak, 83, of 274 25th Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, died at home on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2005, at St. Ludmila?s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Tom McDermott. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service and one hour prior to service at the church. A parish vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and will be preceded by a gear presentation ceremony conducted by the Cedar Rapids Fire Department Honor Guard. Burial: St. John?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Rita; son, John (Grace) Rehak of Kansas City; daughters, Susan (Dennis) Blome, Lisa (John) Ernst, Gail (Kerry) Loskill, Janet Wilkie, and Diane (Bruce) Dalton; and a brother, Milo (Virginia) Rehak all of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Betty Bousek and Marge Baldus; a son, James Rehak; a brother, Edward Rehak; and two sisters, Alice Hurych and Mary Dostal.
Lester was born May 17, 1922, the son of Joseph and Mary (Bulva) Rehak. On September 23, 1977, he was united in marriage to Rita (Meimann) Baldus at St. Ludmila?s Catholic Church. He was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids where he was a fireman for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department for 26 years, retiring in 1977. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
