LeRoy Swiser, 87, of 1733 McRoberts Road, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died in his sleep on Saturday, December 22, 2007, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a six-month battle with cancer. Memorial Service: 4:00 p.m., Monday, December 24, 2007, at Murdoch- Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Visitation: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter, Karen (Dave) Cowell, Durango, Iowa; son, Chris (Laura) Swiser, Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Shaun Swiser and Adam (Samantha) Swiser, both of Cedar Rapids; and great-grandson, Owen Swiser of Cedar Rapids.
Born in Indiana, LeRoy moved with his family to Cedar Rapids in 1929. He married Edna Marie Jungjohann in 1941, just prior to joining his shipmates in the Navy. His final assignment was aboard the U.S.S. Hornet. He retired in 1983 from the Square D Company after 27 years as a tool & die maker and was a member of the Mizpah Lodge of Cedar Rapids for 50 years. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
LeRoy was a respected square dance caller for the Cedar Rapids Recreation Commission for many years, and even had his own square dance show on KCRG-TV in the late 1950’s.
LeRoy enjoyed his family and friends, bowling, fishing, and traveling the country with Edna. He will be missed by all and his memory will live on in those who knew him.
