Leroy Martin Gehring, of 2810 Silverton Ct. in San Antonio, Texas, 78261, born August 1, 1924, son of Carl and Grace (Aeschliman) Gehring, former resident of Northeast Iowa and Marion, Iowa, died December 24, 2008, at his home in San Antonio, Texas, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Howard Chapman. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside Service: 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, rural West Union, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Bonna Bishop, who he married on August 13, 1950; four children, Michael (Karen) of Cedar Rapids, Jon (Elizabeth) of Marietta, GA, Dennis (Jeannine) of Marion, and Irene (Kevin) Konzen of San Antonio; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; his brother Lowell (Barbara) of Kearney, NE; sisters, Marian (Maurice) Cook, Waterloo and Ruth (Lloyd) Baumgartner, Iowa City; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of American Legion Post 298 in Marion; discharged from the army in January of 1946.
