Leonard E. Wise, 74, of 130 Clover Drive SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007, in his home of pulmonary fibrosis. Services: 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Fred Darbonne. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 20, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, June; children, Kevin (Ellen) Wise and their children Adam and Mackenzie of Solon, Iowa, Steven (Dana) Wise and their children Kylie, Kendall and Kalyn of Cedar Rapids and Cheryl Thorson and companion Rodney Zak of Bethel, Minnesota and their children Melissa Thorson of Cambridge, Minnesota, Jamie Zak and his children Karissa and Carson Zak and Jason Zak and his son Dylan Zak of Cambridge, Minnesota; brothers, Leland “Leo” (Julie) Wise, Sr., Manual “Manny” (Dorothy) Wise, Richard “Artie” (Nancy) Wise, Laurence “Larry” (Liz) Wise and Melvin “Mel” Wise all of Cedar Rapids; and sister, Evelyn “Ev” Humphreys of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Phyllis Wennermark, Thelma Humphreys and Ruth Jean Wise.
Leonard was born October 16, 1932 in Athol, South Dakota, the son of John and Louella (Meyers) Wise. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. On September 16, 1960, he married June Burlingham in Cedar Rapids. He worked in the shipping department of Johnson Gas & Appliance Company retiring in 1996.
Leonard enjoyed playing softball, fishing, bowling and reading. He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post #5.
A memorial fund has been established in Leonard’s memory.
