Leonard Merle Stewart, 96, of Springville, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at Springville Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Burial: Springville Cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Larry (Beverly) Stewart of Martelle, Dianne Armstrong of Plano, Texas, Joan (William) Anderson of Haymarket, Virginia and Linda (Dale) Fisher of Anamosa; a sister, Eleanor (David) Kelley of Springville.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Bret, Laurie, Carrie, Craig, Jennifer, Eric, Jill, Cory and Brenda; and fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Geneva of 64 years; a son-in-law, D. Gordon Armstrong; two brothers; and two sisters.
Leonard was born February 1, 1919, the son of William Merle and Mary Edna (Martin) Stewart in rural, Springville. He graduated from Springville High School. On June 1, 1941, he married Geneva Kathryn Scheer in West Branch. Leonard & Geneva farmed in Linn County their entire life. He was a member of Springville Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, serving as Trustee and Elder for over 12 years.
Leonard loved caring for his horses, antiquing, and refinishing furniture. His greatest joy was his loving wife and family.
