Leona I. Stephenson, 98, of Rowley, Iowa, died Monday, April 20, 2009, in her home. Services: 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 24, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Leo Andersen. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial: Walker Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Marjorie (Bob) Pecinovsky of Rowley, Ed (Judy) Stephenson of Manchester, Virginia Dixon of Winthrop, Frank (June) Stephenson of Center Point, Clifford (Gae) Stephenson of Hiawatha, Alvin Stephenson of Cedar Rapids and Curt (Alice) Stephenson of Central City; 34 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; 45 great-great grandchildren; one step grandchild; two step great grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Zimmerman of Hills.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; children, Clarence Stephenson, David Stephenson, William Stephenson, Henry Stephenson, Irene Hutchins, Shirley Stephenson and Emmeline Stephenson; two grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters.
Born April 5, 1911, in Hopkinton, Iowa, Leona was the daughter of Robert and Nellie (Green) Tharp. On December 10, 1929, she was united in marriage to Alvin Stephenson. He died June 14, 1980.
Leona’s joys were cutting wood, baking, cooking and gardening.
