Leona M. "Mackie? Jones, 77, of 1218 B Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 20, 2006, in her home from breast cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. William Harnish. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Connie (Bud) Phillips, Alan (Cathy) Jones both of Cedar Rapids, Delores (Michael) Martin of Birmingham, Alabama and Pat Jones of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Mike, Marc, Bruce, Carrie, Tina, Felicia, Brittany, Echo, Ajai, Robert, Melissa and Kandis; special granddaughter, Melissa Cones; special grandson, Mike Phillips; great grandsons, Devan, John, Nathan, Seth, Kaylea, Jacob, Cameron, Jenah, Dakota, Deenah, Stephanie and Brittany Marie Leonard; and a sister, Joyce (Lee) Falk of Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her daughter, Naoma; two granddaughters, Dana and Darcie; two grandsons, Lance and Alan, Jr.; two sisters, Betty and Bonnie; and two brothers, Albert and Melvin.
Leona was born March 18, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of George and Inez (Schultz) Henderson. She was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids. On October 18, 1946, in Cedar Rapids she was united in marriage to David Jones. He died May 5, 1986. Leona was a homemaker who was a member of the Red Hat Society and former member of the Eagles Club.
Leona was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She was a friend to many people. Leona was a fun loving person who loved to joke and laugh. She loved pretty flowers and found joy in working in a garden. She has asked that those who know and remember her will recall a time when she made them laugh or smile.
